Mobile Spectrum Auction Tops $700 million

The Canadian government’s auction of cellphone wireless sprctrum moved closer to a billion dollars on Wednesday on its second day, with Quebecor so far the biggest spender.

The Montreal-based media company has committed more than $255 million while incumbent Telus Corp. is in second place and holds the most high bids.

Industry Canada’s auction of spectrum, the airwaves that cellphones use, topped $700 million, up $73 million after two additional rounds of bidding.
